Haysi, VA- Englin Byrd Wood, age 83, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Harrison and Judy Viers Wood. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was last employed in auto body. He was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ayers, Robert, Toy and Swanson Wood, a sister, Pearl Woods and his first wife, Viola Wood.
Survivors include his wife, Mazie Wood, a step-daughter, Shelia (Steve) Counts of Meadowview, step-grandchildren, Matthew (Kristina) Counts of Martin City, Montana, Amy Counts (Tye Rather) of Irmo, SC and Molly Counts of Meadowview, 3 step great-grandchildren, Lucas and Austin Counts and Macie Rather, two brothers, Elmer and Andy Wood, two sisters, Laura (Price) Viers of Clinchco and Gertrude Owens of Vansant and a special niece, Charlotte Childress.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Haysi Funeral Home with Preachers Willard Wood and Jerry Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Viers Cemetery, Clinchco, VA. Military graveside rites will be conducted. Pallbearers will be Matthew Counts, Gilmer Childress, Ronnie Turner, Benny Church, Eugene Hackney, Roger Rose and Tye Rather. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the funeral home with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to
