Haysi, VA- Another angel went to glory, Betty Charles, age 76 went home with open arms on Thursday, October 16, 2014 in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was a daughter of the late William (Ike) and Sylvia Deel. She was a member of Lickcreek Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Viers, Peter Riva, Robert Petroske, and Bill Charles, a son, Steve Viers, sisters, Pinkie Deel, Ollie Raines, Birchie Deel and Patsy Blackenbecker and brothers, James and Lonnie Deel.
She is survived by her children, Bill (Donna) Viers of Milwaukee, Janie “Sis” Sutherland of Haysi, Bob (Brenda) Riva of Milwaukee and Peter Riva of Haysi and “adopted by love”, Heather Owens of Haysi, a step-daughter, Sheena (Mike) Deel of Haysi, grandchildren, Michael Sutherland, Melanie Caldwell, Josh and Michael Viers, Marybeth, Steven, Nico and Rocco Riva, “adopted grandchildren”, Andrew, Savannah and Ciera Owens, great-grandchildren, Isabel, Adolfo, Jayden, Conner and Mason, sisters, Maggie Hackney, Sue Sperow and Barbara Counts, brothers, Randy and Rocky Deel and countless other family, friends also beloved pet and companion, Lulu Charles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Haysi Funeral Home with Gary Willis officiating. Burial will follow in A.F. Deel Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Pallbearers will be Bill Viers, Bob Riva, Michael Sutherland, Ryan Miller and other nephews.
