Obituary for Margaret Lear ""Lear"" Mullins (Powers)

Haysi, VA- Margaret “Lear” Mullins, age 74, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Born and raised in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Ina Amburgey Powers. She was employed as an insurance agent at Belcher Insurance Agency for many years and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Mullins, daughter, Melisha Stanley, sisters, Eda Bartley, Dollie Mullins and Trula Powers, brothers, Noel and Cecil Powers and brother-in-laws, Bill Epling and James Bartley.
Survivors include two loving brothers, Glenn Powers and Harvey Powers Jr., two sisters, Earlin Epling and Sue (Bob) Birchfield and a host of nieces and nephews, two adoring grandchildren, Alyssa and Devin Stanley who were the light of her life, a special niece, Kimberly (Ronnie) Owens, a great-niece and nephew, Samuel and Sophie Owens who called her mawmaw Lear and a sweet niece, Tori Powers who when younger called her “Mom”.Lear loved her family and friends and had a special fondness for her family’s “old home place” which she loved to visit with her brother Jr. and reminisce about her days growing up there.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Joel Turner and Roger Fuller officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA. The family will receive friends after 12:00 noon on Wednesday prior to the funeral service.
