Vansant, VA- Troy Yates, age 73, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy, VA after an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Tilden and Louanie Yates. He was a member of Little David Old Regular Baptist Church where he loved serving the Lord, he was a faithful servant who deeply loved the Lord. He was a disabled coal miner and member of the UMWA, a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sylvia Yates and Margaret Deel and a brother, Jerry Yates.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 52 years, Sue Yates, a daughter, Alicia (Bobby) O’Quin, two sons, Bobby (Stephanie)Yates and Joel (Rita) Yates, five grandchildren, Matt O’Quin, Sara (O’Quin) (Aaron) Stiltner, Tyler Yates, Luke Yates, Brittany Yates, two special nieces, Stacy and Jessi Looney, four brothers, Lonnie (Fayger) Yates, Billy (Geraldie) Yates, Herman (Evonne) Yates, Danny (Margie) Yates and three sisters, Ponzella Deel, Sadie (Auty) Deel and Brenda (Jackie) Yates.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Frank Newsome, Danny Yates, Buster Mullins, Jerry Newsome, Eddie Newsome and David O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in Yates Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Pallbearers will be Aaron Stiltner, Matt O’Quin,Tyler, Luke and Tristain Yates and Teddy, Harold and Gordon (Corky) Looney. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. D. Patel, Dr. T. Bulle, Dr. Dia Owens, Dr. L. Bender, Special Care Home Health and Hospice and Brian and Ronald Moore, George Crigger, Douglas Potter, Alex Vanover and Casey Stark.
