Haysi, VA- Winford Viers, age 78, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 at his home. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Rufus and Hettie Arrington Viers. He was a retired coal miner and member of Emmanuel Old Regular Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Sidney, Alex, Ferdie, Billy and infant Eugene and sisters, Emma Edwards, Bertha Edwards and Dollie Hackney.
Survivors include his wife, Betta, two daughters, Leasha (Eddie) Newsome of Birchleaf and Tonya (Scottie) Cox of Vansant, two sons, Barry (Donna) Viers of Birchleaf and Dana Clay (Meta) Viers of Alexandria, sisters, Pauline Ramey of Haysi and Opal Boyd of Prater, grandchildren, Kevin Viers, Jordon Newsome, Alexis Cox, Rio Elizabeth Viers, Chasity Matney, Christina Matney and Ronald Matney and a great- grandchild, McKenzie Brooke Viers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Eddie Newsome, Steve Lyall and Carvel Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Viers Cemetery, Birchleaf, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
