Obituary for Gilbert ""Gib"" Clevinger

Gilbert ""Gib""  Clevinger
Haysi, VA- Gilbert “Gib” Clevinger, age 85 of Breaks Park Road, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN. Born in Keene Mtn., he was a son of the late Johnny and Mandy Jane Keen Clevinger. He served in the U.S. Army during Korean War from 1948-1955 he was Sargent 1st class. He was Owner and Operator of Gibs Cabinet Shop since 1970 and was a past member of Haysi Kiwanis where he served as president. Gib was a member of Clintwood Masonic Lodge #66 and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Mae Bennett Clevinger, brothers, Fred, Frank, Larkin and Jim and sisters, Stella Dales, Lou Owens and Alice Coleman.
Survivors include a son, Teddy (Jenny) Clevinger of Castlewood, a granddaughter, Jessica L. Clevinger of Bristol, TN, a grandson, John Bradford Clevinger (Devan Keith) of Abingdon, sisters, Polly Bateman of Mississippi, Jean St.Clair of Oakwood and Rachel Cochran of Ohio.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elder Eddie Newsome officiating. Clintwood V.F.W. Post will conduct Military Graveside Rites in Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock,VA. Pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry D. Sutherland, Harold and Roger Fuller, Johnny Goodwin, Paul Crouse, Daniel Johnson and Lee Keene. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital or Wounded Warriors Project.
