Abingdon, VA – Cathryn Ray Gary, age 72, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Holly Ray and Maxie Turner Edwards. She was a homemaker and member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Lee Gary, two brothers, Hallard and Dallas Edwards, and two sisters, Bulah and Nina Edwards.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Tom Gary, daughter, Jennifer (Jon) Herndon of Abingdon, son, Michael (Toisha) Gary of Locust Grove, VA, grandchildren; Nichole Herndon, Katie (Ray) Cheek, Jenalee Herndon, Luke Herndon, Meghan Herndon, Levi Herndon, Eagan Gary, and a great-grandchild, Abigail Cheek, two sisters, Lola (Vayard) Hall of Michigan and Sheila (Teddy) Bailey of Clinchco, VA, two brothers, Carol (Nellie) Edwards and Sam (Lois) Edwards both of Clinchco, a sister-in-law, Irene Edwards of Clinchco, and an aunt, Juanita Mullins of Abingdon.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Jim O’quinn, Roger Rose, and Roger Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwards Cemetery, Birchleaf, VA. Grandsons, nephews, and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church. The family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at Woodland Hills Christian Church in Abingdon with a service at 6:00 p.m. with Elders Bobby Mayhorn, Herb Denton, and Garnell Gilbert.
