Haysi, VA- Andrew “Andy” Jackson Wood, age 93 of Backbone Ridge, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at his home. Born October 11, 1922 in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Henry Harrison and Judy Viers Wood, he was one of ten children. In his younger days he worked in Florida at a Navy Shipyard, and worked as a body repair man having retired from Jim O’quinn Ford. Andy had several interests including trains and collecting rocks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Glade Lowe Wood in 2002 and brothers, Robert, Ayers, Swanson, Toy, Englin, Elmer and a sister, Pearl Wood.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah (Danny) Owens and Shelia Wood both of Haysi, two grandchildren, Matthew Viers of Clintwood and Roxanna (Scott) Messer of Big Stone Gap, a great-grandson, Ryan Messer, sisters, Laura (Pridemore) Viers of Haysi and Gertrude Owens of Prater.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Haysi Funeral Home with Gary Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Rebecca Willis Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Pallbearers will be Lane Wood, Ryan Messer, Scott Messer, Gilmer Childress and Matthew Viers.
