Haysi, VA – Ural Wayne Owens, age 68 of Auty’s Drive passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, VA. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of Imal Owens and the late Auty Owens. Last employed as a foreman, he was a US Army Veteran, a member of the VFW Post 3782 and a member of Coleman’s Methodist Church. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a brother, David Owens.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Sue Owens; sons, James (Kim) Owens of Haysi, VA, David Ray Owens of Kodiak, AK and Tony Owens of Anchorage, AK; stepson, Joey (Glenda) Edwards; grandchildren, Katelyn, Colton, Hayley, Logan and Kristal; step grandchildren, Amber, Christopher and Tanner; great grandson, Jensen; brothers, Ricky (Edith) Owens of Vansant, VA, Sonny (Nancy) Owens of Clinchco, VA and Dennis (Connie) Owens of Birchleaf, VA; sisters, Rochell Cottrell of Seville, OH, Janice (Perry) Carter and Katie (Gary) Fleming both of Richlands, VA, Sadie (Danny) Shortridge of Bastion, VA, Sandra (Morris) Barton and Judy (Chris Horn) Lyall both of Haysi, VA and Jennifer (Chuck) Potter of Grundy, VA; and sister-in-law, Lorene Owens of Haysi, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at Haysi Funeral Home with Darrell Thacker and Russell Lockhart officiating. Burial will follow in the Auty Owens Family Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Pallbearers will be Tyler Lyall, Richard Owens, Mark Owens, Frank Owens, Brian Owens, James Owens and Scott Shortridge.
