JAMES RUSSELL NEWSOME
Portsmouth, Ohio- James Russell Newsome, age 86, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016. Born in Pike County, KY, he was a son of the late Harvey and Katey Hall Newsome. He was a coal miner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie O’quinn Newsome, a son, Larry Newsome and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three children, James Darrell (Bonnie) Newsome of Clintwood, Patsy (Virl) Bentley of Mansfield, OH and Danny (Bernie) Newsome of Upper Sandusky, OH, 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, eight brothers and sisters, Ruby Oozley of Pikeville, Johnny Newsome of McArthur, OH, Junior Newsome of Carlington, OH, Elder Frank Newsome of Haysi, Ruth Fuller of Birchleaf, Dave Newsome of Virgie, KY, Daphene Akers of Little Robinson Creek, KY and Lorine Young of Pike Co. KY and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Little David Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders David O’quinn, Eddie Newsome, Jerry Newsome, Jim Blankenship and Frank Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in Willie Yates Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Pallbearers will be Daniel Yates, Josh Yates, Issac Yates, Sammy Yates, Tommy Newsome and Frankie Newsome. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the church with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
