Obituary for Garmon Lee Owens

Haysi, VA- Garmon Lee Owens, age 84, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Raymond Ross and Bessie Smith Owens. He was a Sergeant E5 serving in the U.S. Air Force and was a former bus driver for Dickenson County Schools. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Mae Owens, brothers, Clifford, Gerald and Utah Owens and sisters, Dixie Gilbert, Delphia Owens and Mazie Owens.
Survivors include two daughters, Lorie (Richard) Nowlin of Haysi, Robin Kirby of Montana and a son, Chris Owens of Montana, grandchildren, Holly and Brandon (Spanky) Arrington, Ian Kirby, Jessica Kirby and Erika Owens, 2 great-grandchildren, Jenna Nicole and Tyler both of Haysi, Loving Companion and friend and her children, Donna Thacker of Steele, KY, 2 step-daughters, Vonda Doweline O’quinn and Wanda Lee Boyd, a brother, Bernard (Ruth) Owens of Honaker, sisters, Ruby Colley and Elsie Flint both of Clintwood.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Haysi Funeral Home with Danny Sluss officiating. Military graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, at Phipps Cemetery, Clintwood, VA. Pallbearers will be Bryant Bishop, Walter Adkins, Jason Owens, Burbon Thacker and Brandon (Spanky) Arrington. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday prior to funeral service.
