Emily Gay O’quin Yates
Haysi, VA – Emily Gay O’quin Yates, age 88, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017 at Pikeville Medical Center in Kentucky. Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late John Harvey and Emily Mary Owens O’quin. She was a member of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church and a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Freelin Yates, brothers, Rufus, Finas, James W., Walter, and Frenchman O’quin, sisters, Louania Yates, Rosie Lindy Mitchell, and Cora Jane O’quin, and several step-children.
Survivors include step-children, Edna Colley and Basil (Barbara) Yates, and her twin sister, Bertha O’quin,
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Roger Coleman, Mark Justice, Toy Looney, and A.B. Thacker officiating. Burial will follow in the Yates Cemetery, Greenbrier. Pallbearers will be Michael Deel, Kevin Yates, Jimmie Dean Yates, Rickie Yates, Dean Yates, George Yates, and Doug O’quinn. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. at the church on Sunday, August 20 and Monday, August 21 where an evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m. both nights.
