Sylvia Jean Turner
Coeburn, VA – Sylvia Jean Turner, age 78, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at her home. Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Harrison and Princy Deel Owens. She was last employed by Payless in Coeburn and was a member of Lickfork Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Homer Viers, a son, Burnis Viers, sisters, Imel Owens, Stella Owens, Opel Garrett, and Susie Conaway, and brothers, Trinkle Owens, John Owens, Doley Owens, and Vernon Owens.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Arthur Turner, three children, Allen (Theda) Viers of Clinchco, VA, Etta (Johnny) Yates of Cedar Bluff, VA, and Jason Viers of Coeburn, grandchildren, Brandi (Josh), Shasta (Bill), Kayla (Doug), Heather, Jessica (David), and Johnathan, great-grandchildren, Elias, Abram, Zeke, Roman, Kadence, Mckenzie, Madison, Kaelyn, and Raylan, three sisters, Vonda Shortridge, Roxie Jackson, and Hilda Boyd, and three brothers, Doc Owens, Burlin Owens, and Phillip Owens.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Haysi Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Owens Cemetery, Birchleaf, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7 where an evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
