Hassell Branham
Hassell Branham, age 95, died on Sept. 22 2017 at Mountain View Retirement Home after a brief illness. He was born March 18, 1922, the son of the late James Harless Branham and Anna Louise Stiltner. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe in Patton’s 3rd Army. He worked in the mines for around 20 years before becoming self-employed as a taxi driver, driving all over Buchanan County and the surrounding areas. Preceding him in death besides his parents were his 3 brothers Wayne, Auty, and Claud and 4 sisters, Edith, His twin sister Rose, Georgie and Pauline and one step-daughter, Linda. Also preceding him were 2 grandchildren Kevin and Kelly and a great grandchild Zachery.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth and a brother, Burton. Also surviving are 5 children, Darrell, Shirley, Dan, Linda and Brandy and 3 step-children, Clifford, Pat, and Jr. He has 14 grandchildren, Mike, Martha, Joe, Samantha, Wayne, Sarah, Shawn, Jacinda, Tiffany, Bridget, Keisha, Evans, Diedra, and Cheyenne, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Emory and Taylen.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2017 at Haysi Funeral Home with Roy Lee Wilson and Kyle Ratliff officiating. Entombment will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA with VFW Post #7360 of Grundy, VA providing military honors.
