Earnest E. "Dock"  Deel
Earnest E. Deel (Dock)
Birchleaf, VA – Earnest E. Deel, age 87 of Rakes Ridge Road, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in Dickenson Community Hospital, Clintwood, VA. Born Oct. 24, 1929 in Buchanan County, he was one of seven children born to the late John Henry and Louisa Deel. He was a hard working man all his life and was a coal miner for 40 years, a member of UMWA 7170 and a member of Mountain View Old Regular Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors where he enjoyed weed eating and gardening, giving away most of what he had raised.He loved to hunt in his youth but enjoyed fishing in his later years sitting on the bank seeming sometimes to out wait the fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jane Deel, brothers, Marcus Deel, Kermit Deel, Noah Deel Jr., and Roy Deel and sisters, Mae Branham and Edith Belcher.
Survivors include his sons, Ferrell (Coleen) Deel of Clintwood, VA and Ray (Mary Catherine) Deel of Birchleaf, VA; a granddaughter, Adrienne (Rob) Kendell of Roanoke; step granddaughter, Kelly French of Norfolk; great grandchildren, Haleigh Kendall and Mackenzi Kendall both of Roanoke, many nieces and nephews and a very special caregiver, Tona Mullins of Clintwood.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 noon Friday, October 6, 2017 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Earl Dean Yates and Andy Deel officiating. Burial will follow in the James P. Deel Cemetery, Birchleaf, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m till noon on Friday with a song service prior to funeral service.Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
