Gray, TN- Merle Gilbert Fuller, age 92, passed away quietly, Monday, January 8, 2018 at the home of her daughter in Gray, TN. Born August 26, 1925 in Haysi, VA she was a daughter of the late Perry Evans and Fannie Lillian Gilbert. She lived in Haysi, VA all her life until health issues required a change. When the original Dickenson County Vocational School was built she was the cosmetology teacher retiring in 1993 after 25 years of service. She loved quilting, reading, gardening and walking in the woods on her farm admiring the ferns and wildflowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Woodrow Fuller, sisters, Ferne Mullins, Ruth Lowery, Gay Clark, Janice Bowman, Uva Dillion, Beth Arrington and Margaret Keene and brothers, Clyde, Lynn, Bill and Gene Gilbert.
Survivors include a daughter Deborah and husband, Douglas Cruey, a son, David Neal Fuller, grandchildren, Neal Shannon and Terri Cruey, Aaron Douglas and Leigh Anne Cruey, John David and Cynthia Fuller, Jennifer Minea Fuller and great-grandchildren, Rebecca Cruey, Emily Cruey, Natalie Fuller and her half-brother, Wayne Gilbert.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Haysi Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas Cruey officiating. Burial will follow in Gilbert Family Cemetery, Haysi, VA. The family will receive friends after 12:00 noon on Thursday prior to funeral services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Dickenson First Presbyterian Church, Haysi, VA or your favorite charity.
