Obituary for Themis Wingo Hackney

Birchleaf, VA – Themis Hackney, age 65 of Hackney Ridge, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at his home. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Howard and Lona Deel Hackney. He was a self-employed carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Evertte Hackney.
Survivors include a son, Themis Jay (Krista) Hackney of Mooresville, NC, a daughter, Kristy Johnson of Pikeville, KY, grandchildren; Dylan Johnson, Gabriel Johnson, Trey Johnson, Tyler Hackney, and Reese Hackney, siblings; Avery (Denise) Hackney, Claude Hackney, Cledith (Hazel) Hackney, Jackie (Barbara) Hackney all of Birchleaf, Charlotte (John) Sharpe of Nashville, TN, Mona Yates of Jacksonville, FL, Marie Sexton of Grundy, VA, Cathy (Ervin) Boyd of Birchleaf, and Becky (Darrell) Barton of Clinchco, VA, a special caregiver, his nephew Scotty Boyd, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Haysi Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow in the Hackney-Deel Cemetery, Hackney Ridge with Elder Mark Justice. Avery Hackney, Claude Hackney, Cledith Hackney, Jackie Hackney, Darrell Barton, and Dylan Johnson will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home for funeral expenses. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com. Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
