Obituary for Roby Owens

Birchleaf, VA – Roby Owens, age 90 of Aaron’s Drive, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Born February 3, 1928 in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Billy and Caroline Deel Owens. He was a WWII Army Veteran and a retired coal miner working for Clinchfield Coal for 28 yrs. He was a member of UMWA Local 8288 for 61 yrs. and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death, by a grandson, Danny Ray Owens, four brothers, Taw, Ed, Brady and Ted Owens and three sisters, Florence (Junior) Owens, Loni (Lundy) Childress and Effie Owens. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Anna Rae Epling Owens, three sons, Rex (Barbara) Owens of Birchleaf, Blane (Kim) Owens of Prater and George (Debbie) Owens of Birchleaf, four daughters, Dixie (Paul) Hagy of Leemaster, Kathy (Art) Owens and Cassie (Andy) O’quin both of Prater and Marti (Kevin) Owens of Beckley, WV, 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Jeff Dotson, Roger Fuller and Shawn Dotson officiating. Burial will follow in Owens Family Cemetery, Birchleaf, VA. Pallbearers will be Josh, Joey, Elijah and Kevin Owens, Art Bailey and Andy O’quin. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Deel and Clifford Sanders. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a song service at 7:00 p.m.
