Obituary for Andrew Jackson Mullins Jr.

Andrew Jackson  Mullins Jr.
Haysi, VA- Andrew Jackson Mullins, Jr., age 86, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 4, 2018. Born February 4, 1932 to the late Andrew Jackson and Velva Davis Mullins. He was a lifelong resident of Haysi. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a true friend to many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Alton, brothers, Victor and George Mullins, sisters, Guyeula Tarwater, Geraldine Mullins, Joann Owens, Jackie Hendricks and Pauline Clodfelter.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Lois Hamon Mullins, two sons, Andrew Jackson Mullins III and wife Gail and Ernest Mark Mullins and wife Amy, three grandchildren, Andrea Brooke Mullins, Tyler Mark Mullins and wife Kendra and Nicholas Drew Mullins, a sister, Gaynell Sutherland, several nieces and nephews and a wonderful church family.
Andrew was a devoted servant of the Lord having been a member of Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church for 52 yrs. He was a past Sunday School Superintendant, Teacher and Church Treasurer. He humbly served as Deacon for 43 yrs. He loved his God and his church. He was a fifty yr. plus member and past Master of the Clintwood Masonic Lodge No.66. He was Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He was retired from the United States Postal Service. He was elected and served as Treasurer of Dickenson County for two terms from 2000-2007. He was dedicated to the betterment of his community and was currently serving on the Dickenson County Industrial Development Authority and the Dickenson Community Hospital Foundation Board. He was a past member of Haysi Town Council, serving 18 yrs. He was a past member of the Breaks Interstate Park Commission, Dickenson County Public Service Authority and the John Flanagan Water Authority. He volunteered with the Haysi Little League baseball program for many, many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Sluss and Minister Gary Sullivan officiating. Entombment will follow in Davis Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Pallbearers will be Tyler Mullins, Nicholas Mullins, George Michael Wallace, Bill Davis, Gilmer Childress, Floyd Osborne and Lorn Junior Looney. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Splashdam Freewill Baptsit Church-Mack Fink, Zane Counts, Roger Stanley, David Powers, Rick Mullins and Clint Owens also Victor Mullins, Johnny Goodwin and Joe Tate. The family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, at the church with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. including Masonic rites. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Splashdam Church Youth Group, 9591 The Lake Road, Clintwood, VA 24228.
