Denton, NC- Betty Jean Stevens Blankenship, age 74, was called to be with the Lord suddenly on Monday, September 17, at her home in Denton, NC. Born and raised in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Dorothy Stevens of Council. Betty was last employed for Street Law Firm. Betty was a good mother and grandmother. Betty was well loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bobby Wilson Blankenship, son, Ricky Blankenship, brother, Donald Stevens and great-grandson, Jared Dean Blankenship.
Survivors include four children who she was very proud of, sons, Bobby Dean Blankenship (Phyllis) of Prater, Rondal Keith Blankenship (Teresa) Of Denton, NC, daughters, Jania Deel of Denton, NC, Sherry Currie of Atlanta, GA, sisters-in-laws, Mary Bailey (Jack Deel) of Vansant, Beatrice Ann Byrd of Prater, Phyllis Stevens of FL, 7 grandchildren, Robert Dean Blankenship, Devon and Mason Currie, Isaac Blankenship and Kaleb, Hunter and Camron Hale and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Coleman Chapel Church with Darrell Thacker and Russell Lockhart officiating. Burial will follow in Deel Blankenship Cemetery, Vansant, VA. Pallbearers will be Mason Currie, Rob Blankenship, Timmy Wayne O’quinn, Norman Ratliff, Jeff Bailey, Kaleb Hale, Hunter Hale and Rocky Stevens.
