Haysi, VA- Selma C. Owens, age 90 passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her family. Born July 11, 1927 in Breaks, VA she was a daughter of the late Karl and Melster Presley Colley. She was retired from Eastern Isles Manufacturing Company and was Head Cook at Breaks Interstate Park for many years. She served on the Dickenson County School Board and was a member of the Athletic booster club working the concession She was a member of Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church, where she joined hand and hand with Pa Roy and they were baptized August 5, 2012.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Roy E. Owens, brothers, Robert Karl, Jimmy Carroll and Johnny Colley and a grandchild, Marquitta Sluss.
Survivors include a brother, Elster Lee Colley of Narrows, VA, a daughter, Sandy (Danny) Sluss of Haysi, two sons, Roy Lee (Gayle) Owens of Breaks and James Robert (Deb) Colley of Haysi, grandsons, Sunny (Rita) Owens of South Carolina, Rob (Kendal) Colley of Pulaski and Jacob Colley of Pikeville, KY, granddaughters, Alyssa (Jared) Cantrell of Breaks, Kasandra (Jay) Ferland of Marion and Toisha (Michael) Gary of Locust Grove, 12 great grandchildren, Shandi, Indya, Marissa, Irelyn, Eagan, Jaylin, Mya, Colton, JaVonte, Rashad, Gabrielle and Caleb and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church with Danny Sluss, Darrell Milgrim and Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Entombment will follow in N.B. Colley Cemetery, Breaks, VA. Pallbearers will be grandsons, grandsons-in-law and Woody McCowan. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial gift may be made to Fresenius Medical Care and Rescue 33 Ambulance service both of Grundy, VA.
